RespectRight – Respecting the work
Recently we, Rozenberg Publishers, started publishing e-books. And we will not be securing those books.We wish to work as customer-friendly as we can, which is why we choose not to restrict the customer in how they use their purchase. We don’t want to force a customer to download a certain software before they can read the book they bought and we want them to be able to read their purchase on whatever device(s) they choose.
Of course we could, for instance, include a watermark in our books. It would leave a paper trail to a customer should our publication happen to become available as a free download somewhere.
But it would only be more secure on the surface: For whatever security system is available, a quick search on the internet reveals a way to crack it.
What we are doing is call to mind the moral of the story. Because we would like for everyone involved to be able to do their jobs well.
